Look it's Superman, no wait, it's an Aeroplane bag

This weekend I am traveling handmade (New Orleans, baby!) so I figured I better post about my Aeroplane bag. The pattern is from Sara at Sew Sweetness. I made the long version and decided to Quilt as you go (QAYG) like Elizabeth (Don't call me Betsy) did. You see, I saw her construct her bag at the Stash Bash and I just had to get the pattern and make one myself as soon as I got home.

Picture with the froggy, just for you Katie.

I love the velocity fabric line and based my color scheme off of it. Grays, blue, lime and coral make me happy. I followed the pattern almost exactly because this was my first bag and I didn't want to mess it up. One minor modification I did was to pad the top part of the straps with some scraps of soft and stable. This is such a huge bag that it may get heavy and now the straps will be extra squishy on my shoulder.

I lined the bag with one of my favorite prints from the birds and the bees - Meteor shower.

My first recessed zipper! It went rather well.

I had to line the pockets with teapots - ergo teapockets. I got a lot of this teapot fabric at the Stash Bash and will be lining lots of stuff with it.

To answer your question of would I make another aeroplane bag? I give you this:

My bag is packed and ready to go. Linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts for Friday Finishes. I hope you all have a splendid weekend.

  4. I wish I had one!! Maybe that means I need to just do it, eh? All the hoopla over that dang Weekender bag has me bag-shy, but maybe I could handle this one. I think your bag turned out just busy enough--it is so cute!
