  1. Really? Most of my bus stories make me want to wear gloves and a face mask! Here goes, my daughter got on the same bus as me and we struck up a conversation as if we did not know each other. Had the guy across from us in stitches. Thanks for the give awa.

  2. Oh wow, I used to get four buses a day when I was at college and usually the stories were scary or pervy TBH. So the least dark thing I can think of right now is the boys from the school in the town centre used to always be on my first bus of the day and glancing at the books of the one I was forced to sit next to as there were no more seats, I noticed his name was Lindsay. Yes a boy called Lindsay as a first name. I think his parents must have hated him.

  4. OH MY GOSH. I used to ride the bus back and forth from campus every day when I first moved to PA for grad school. One day on the weekend, I was riding the bus home in the early afternoon and on the bus there was this man with all of these white supremacist buttons and a t-shirt that said "let me have my 1980s America." He also had a cassette player. And that's my one and only crazy bus story.

  5. So preface - I have irrational anxiety about public transportation - cabs, buses etc. I was on a trip to visit my hubs when he was working near a university for a semester internship. He convinced me we should take the bus. We only had enough $$ for one fair but since he had a University ID (not a student) that he could ride for free. So I begrudgingly agree. I get on first, pay the fair and then I hear the bus driver telling him that since it's not a student ID he has to pay or not ride. So he gets off the bus!! Leaves me on there alone! I didn't live in this town, had no idea where I was going and he left me on there! So at the next stop I promptly hightailed it off of there and he couldn't understand why I got off the bus!

  6. Congratulations on 100 posts! Great bundle.

So, there's a funny story: I once saw a girl carrying a HUGE ham on the Penn State on-campus bus. Wrapped, uncooked. OK.
And a scary story: I got on the 66 bus in Boston, trying to go from Mission Hill across the river to Cambridge. It was mid-day, but the bus was empty. Driver lets me on, closes the doors, tells me that he has to take a detour to Cambridge because of a bike race (that I wasn't aware of). 45 terrifying minutes, a ride over the BU Bridge, and no other passengers later, he lets me off safe in Cambridge where I wanted to go. Still, it was scary, and I learned my lesson.

  7. Hmmmm good question. I have no really weird stories. In high school (in England) we rode a double decker to school and there were a few times when driving home in ice storms that I really feared for my life. Ice coated branches would hit the front window upstairs on the bus and we kids were not intelligent enough to be so un-cool as to go downstairs :)

  8. Haha, I love that random question! The weirdest thing I can remember is this time in high school when the girl sitting next to me randomly stood up and mooned the school bus driving next to us. I can't remember what prompted her, but I knew I was shocked and impressed at the same time. Though glad I had nothing to do with it when she was called to the principal's office the next day...

  9. Bus story: when Mike was in 5th grade he stole a sharpie and wrote swear words all over the back of the bus seat. Some other kid ratted him out. To this day he harbors a great hate for the kid.

  10. While living in Montreal, I once got on a bus to go back home from school and was so tired from studying that night that fell asleep. I woke up when the driver told me it was the end of the trip! thanks for the chance to win that lovely fabric!!

  11. No real fun stories on busses. I usually get really motion sick on a bus lol.

  12. I only recall taking the bus a handful of times, and those times were because my mom decided we all needed a lesson in being humble and appreciative of what we had.. so she made everyone including herself take the bus. But I was really young and can;t recall anything crazy/funny going on... but then again we werent really trying to remember that lesson

  13. I can't ride buses, because I fall asleep!! How weird is that? But totally true. I'd often get let off at the end of a school bus route because I'd fall asleep and wake up when we'd get to the bus barn. During college, if I had some time between classes, I'd catch a bus downtown and back (it was free) so I could take a nap. So I miss all the cool goings ons.

At UCSC, there is a bus driver who was named "Epic Bus Driver". He would play epic movie themes during bus rides. Ride of the Valkyries, Imperial March, etc. He passed away suddenly last year, and all the students donated money to buy him a memorial bus stop on campus.

My dog likes to ride the bus. But she isn't generally allowed.

    I think that's all I have!

  14. My high school BFF and I took a bus trip to Mpls/St. Paul when we were 17 to spend a weekend with her older brother. On the way back, we were the ONLY two people on the whole Greyhound until our 1st stop 2 hours into the trip. And, that freaked us out big time (being silly 17 year olds with active imaginations!).

    Congrats on 100 posts!

  15. This is my first time stopping in [found you through Crafternoon Delight's blog today] and I looked at your quilts & pillows and I absolutely love them! Any-who, my story isn't really funny, but could be weird, maybe? So when I was fourteen my class took a trip to St. Louis to visit the Arch. On the way back the boy I was "dating" had me sit with him in the very back, and it was there in the dark of a crowded bus I received my first kiss. I suppose it is funny for me to look back on, lol. Congrats on your 100th post!

  16. When I was a baby I was in an ad for World Book Encyclopedia that was on the side of buses - does that count?

  17. Marla, I just had to write and wish you congratulations on your 100th post! Just since August?! Whoa, you are an prolific writer and sewer! I love reading your posts, and wish you continued success and fun from it all!

    Crazy bus stories? None.
But something nice about buses? Got something for you: in Israel, when the buses are full, it is absolutely typical for people to get in at the back, and hand money to the person in front of them, who passes it forward, and so on through the crowd, until it reaches the driver, who counts the right change, and sends that back with a ticket!

  18. My son always got travel sick when he was young - on a school trip he threw up into the nearest receptacle which was his beloved cricket hat! then to add insult to injury the teachers threw away his hat at their destination and somehow threw away his purse and spending money too!

  19. Yay on the 100th post! I love reading about your quilts and projects.
Hmm... I don't have funny bus stories because I am not a good bus rider. I get bus sick, from the time I was little to even now. But in high school we did have the bus driver pull the bus over and yell at us on a band field trip we did get in trouble for singing cause we were annoying the bus driver with our sing-a-long.

  22. Well, I was flying from California to NY, 7 mos pregnant with my 18 mo old, and we rode the shuttle bus from the parking lot to the airport. We checked our bags, and then he looked around and said "yay, all done!" Oh, were we ever not . . .

  23. Well, I haven't been on a bus for a very long time. I used to take a bus every day to school (I lived on a farm) and we had many bus adventures. We went on band and sport trips on buses ... lots of late night necking, arm wrestling, cards, laughs .. others (not me) mooning passing and following vehicles. But probably the most trouble I had on busses had to do with my reading. I read everywhere ... even when I'm walking. On many occasions I've been so absorbed in a book I've missed getting off a bus. One time in the city on my way home from work I not only missed my stop once and had to take the whole route around until I got back again but then I missed it AGAIN! It was a very good book.

  24. Oh, we were on our way to a cross country meet in high school and a guy in a passing car flashed us. Good times.

  25. We used to go to the public pool by bus when we were kids. I was the oldest of 6 and each of us grabbed a neighbor or 2 to go with us. The biggest problem was when someone spent all their money at the concession stand and didn't have a dime left to put in the hopper for the bus fee. But imagine 12 + wet, sunburned children piling on the city bus, parading off to transfer (but sometimes we just stayed on and road the entire route around, bet they loved it when we did that)

  26. It's my birthday on the 22nd, so I'm counting on some birthday luck here! I hope a subway story will still count - - this just happened on Thursday. I was in Toronto for a meeting, and had to take the subway back to the Greyhound bus station to bring me back home. I got on the Northbound train, instead of the southbound, and missed my bus (fortunately, I was able to catch another one 45 minutes later) - - however, I had a long subway ride. A young developmentally handicapped and barely verbal man approached me. He had a newspaper in his hand, and I invited him to sit down beside me so we could do the crossword puzzle together. He had a blast, and thoroughly enjoyed filling in the little squares. The commuters around us were just as charmed. Okay - not funny, but FUN!!! I'll remember this forever.

  27. Hi!!! Congrats on your 100 posts!!!! Ok!!! While waiting on a bus one day..I had to use the restroom and there was a convenience on the corner where I was waiting...So got to go.. got to go!!!! But didn't want to miss the bus..so I run.. yes run! Hurry hurry hurry!!! Washed my hands though! Run.. rush go..I'm coming out and I can see the bus on its way..so again I run...jump on the bus...start walking back to a seat...people are giggling and at first I thought it had nothing to do with me...but when I sat down...I saw a little white something...
well, apparently in my rush I had tucked the tissue into my pants and the tissue and the cardboard roll were hanging from the back of my pants!!! I think it was a fireworks show Thunder over Louisville we had only took the bus to get closer than we could in a car...1st and last bus ride except school!!! It was me, my husband and four kids...about 15 years ago!!!! You think any of them will just let it go?!!!! Nope!!! Thanks for the fun!!!

  28. My public bus stories usually involve crazy people, so here you go. In Athens, busses are done on the honor system, but if you ride without a ticket and they are doing a spot check you have to pay a fine right there or go to the police station if you do not have the cash. I assume this is particularly problematic for illegal immigrants who would be deported at the police station. I was on the bus riding to class and an inspector got on. One passenger upon seeing this jumped out of the bus window while it was moving. I think he was okay, I guess was worried about police checking his papers, because I can't imagine any other reason for jumping out of a moving bus into Athens traffic.

  30. My bus story is just one of multiple people snoring on the commute into work in the morning.... It's a great place to people watch!!

  31. Congrats in your 100th post! My favourite public transport story was riding a bus through Lao a few years ago. It was a mixture of complete scariness (the speed at which the bus driver was going and the military escort on the bus with his gun sitting on his lap) and hilarity (the French tourists at the back of the bus who were playing guitar, while the bus driver had the bus decked out with these giant speakers which blasted a combination of traditional Thai music and American rap!) and then there was the passenger who wanted to bring along a satellite dish... It was a trip to remember!

  32. Whoa - get a few days behind on your google reader and nearly miss all the excitement! Congrats on your 100th post!! Bus story: growing up in the Uk I used to take the double decker bus from the city out to my nana's house in the country, over the Yorkshire moors. The bus goes over the moors and down into the valley, doing a sharp turn right in front of a sheer drop off called "Surprise" (really!) - I always loved this, and would try to sit up top at the front - it was like a roller coaster ride. It was awesome to take my 9yo son back there this summer, and do the same bus ride with him - he loved it!!

  33. Happy 100th to you. I'm happy to say I haven't had to ride a bus much but I do recall taking one from the train station back home when my boys were little and having them both fall asleep. When we arrived at the bus station they really didn't want to wake up and I had to manage them both and the luggage somehow. I was thinking...what was I thinking?
