I'm happy to say I haven't had to ride a bus much but I do recall taking one from the train station back home when my boys were little and having them both fall asleep. When we arrived at the bus station they really didn't want to wake up and I had to manage them both and the luggage somehow. I was thinking...what was I thinking? Congrats on your 100th post!! Bus story: growing up in the Uk I used to take the double decker bus from the city out to my nana's house in the country, over the Yorkshire moors. The bus goes over the moors and down into the valley, doing a sharp turn right in front of a sheer drop off called "Surprise" (really!) - I always loved this, and would try to sit up top at the front - it was like a roller coaster ride. It was awesome to take my 9yo son back there this summer, and do the same bus ride with him - he loved it!!Chez Roohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16388764069827049149noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4260150928767438131.post-26486971204118476002013-01-22T09:11:51.178-06:002013-01-22T09:11:51.178-06:00Congrats in your 100th post! It was a mixture of complete scariness (the speed at which the bus driver was going and the military escort on the bus with his gun sitting on his lap) and hilarity (the French tourists at the back of the bus who were playing guitar, while the bus driver had the bus decked out with these giant speakers which blasted a combination of traditional Thai music and American rap!) and then there was the passenger who wanted to bring along a satellite dish... It was a trip to remember!craftykathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05919377523091514254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4260150928767438131.post-67181230244992593312013-01-21T23:00:08.359-06:002013-01-21T23:00:08.359-06:00I'm a follower as well!I'm a follower as well!MaryAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07243304656524324363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4260150928767438131.post-84092209633449107252013-01-21T22:59:36.955-06:002013-01-21T22:59:36.955-06:00My bus story is just one of multiple people snorin...My bus story is just one of multiple people snoring on the commute into work in the morning.... In Athens, busses are done on the honor system, but if you ride without a ticket and they are doing a spot check you have to pay a fine right there or go to the police station if you do not have the cash. I assume this is particularly problematic for illegal immigrants who would be deported at the police station. I was on the bus riding to class and an inspector got on. One passenger upon seeing this jumped out of the bus window while it was moving. I think he was okay, I guess was worried about police checking his papers, because I can't imagine any other reason for jumping out of a moving bus into Athens traffic. stitchingandbaconhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08225162158757903392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4260150928767438131.post-49048655286016800942013-01-20T20:13:23.966-06:002013-01-20T20:13:23.966-06:00Hi!!! I hope a subway story will still count - - this just happened on Thursday. I was in Toronto for a meeting, and had to take the subway back to the Greyhound bus station to bring me back home. I got on the Northbound train, instead of the southbound, and missed my bus (fortunately, I was able to catch another one 45 minutes later) - - however, I had a long subway ride. A young developmentally handicapped and barely verbal man approached me. He had a newspaper in his hand, and I invited him to sit down beside me so we could do the crossword puzzle together. He had a blast, and thoroughly enjoyed filling in the little squares. The commuters around us were just as charmed. Okay - not funny, but FUN!!! I'll remember this forever.Nancy-Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09515847756094007274noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4260150928767438131.post-88129937371039911302013-01-19T08:59:24.519-06:002013-01-19T08:59:24.519-06:00We used to go to the public pool by bus when we we...We used to go to the public pool by bus when we were kids. I was the oldest of 6 and each of us grabbed a neighbor or 2 to go with us. The biggest problem was when someone spent all their money at the concession stand and didn't have a dime left to put in the hopper for the bus fee. But imagine 12 + wet, sunburned children piling on the city bus, parading off to transfer (but sometimes we just stayed on and road the entire route around, bet they loved it when we did that)Miss Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09361753998502680507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4260150928767438131.post-47403209857536485152013-01-18T21:03:29.509-06:002013-01-18T21:03:29.509-06:00Follower! I used to take a bus every day to school (I lived on a farm) and we had many bus adventures. We went on band and sport trips on buses ... lots of late night necking, arm wrestling, cards, laughs .. others (not me) mooning passing and following vehicles. But probably the most trouble I had on busses had to do with my reading. I read everywhere ... even when I'm walking. On many occasions I've been so absorbed in a book I've missed getting off a bus. One time in the city on my way home from work I not only missed my stop once and had to take the whole route around until I got back again but then I missed it AGAIN! It was a very good book.Heather Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10225483666564626507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4260150928767438131.post-70680776221990544622013-01-18T17:02:21.309-06:002013-01-18T17:02:21.309-06:00I'm a followerI'm a followerTheresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10593050926999478821noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4260150928767438131.post-10099293558135674422013-01-18T17:02:06.828-06:002013-01-18T17:02:06.828-06:00Well, I was flying from California to NY, 7 mos pr...Well, I was flying from California to NY, 7 mos pregnant with my 18 mo old, and we rode the shuttle bus from the parking lot to the airport.
